Information:

Founded in 1976, and currently having approximately 800 members, the association aims to advance and promote the study of genealogy, specifically in the county of Northamptonshire.

They also help to transcribe and index memorial inscriptions, original documents and other material. It also collaborates with bodies and organisations who have custody of records.

The Society is currently compiling a Personal Name Database from entries in hospital record books, militia lists, parish registers, poor law records, quarter sessions, and other miscellaneous documents.  This database can be searched on the site.

A marriage index is also being compiled by the Society from marriage registers 1754-1837.  Entries contain full transcriptions of the information contained in the register, such as witnesses and whether the marriage was by licence or banns.  Names in this index are included in the Personal Names Database.

Burial and baptism indexes are also being compiled by the Society, covering the period 1813-1837.

Many publications are sold by the Society, which include:

  • Memorial Inscriptions
  • WW1 War Memorials and Rolls of Honour

Its aim is to encourage and unite all those interested in genealogical research, specifically for the county of Nottinghamshire.

Genealogical records are indexed and preserved by the association, and also copied and published.  These include surname indexes to Nottinghamshire Census Returns and Marriages 1813-1837.

For payment of a fee, the Society is prepared to search through their baptism, marriage and burial indexes for mention of a specific person.  They are unable to search the database if you only give them a single surname.  You are advised to make sure the parish you are interested in is available for the years you require before ordering.
