Founded in 1994, the Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society aims to help people who are researching their genealogy, specifically in the area of Montgomeryshire and its borders.

Founded in September 1994, the association aims to assist people who are researching their ancestors by recording and collecting genealogical information from within a 10 mile radius of Dereham.

A list of parishes is also available, which details parishes covered by the association.

Local group members are welcome to borrow from the association's vast library of reference books and other publications.

Many publications are available for sale, which include:

  • Dereham Spitfire Fund
  • Gallantry Awards in World War 1 to Men of Dereham and District
  • History of Mattishall United Reformed Church: includes transcriptions of births from 1772, marriages from 1882 and deaths from 1780

The Society is in the process of creating a burial index covering the parishes surrounding Dereham for the period 1813-1837, and currently has approximately 146000 entries.  For payment of a fee, the Society can search this index on your behalf.

The Society was established in 1968 as Norfolk and Norwich Genealogical Society.  They aim to encourage transcription and indexing projects to give wider access to genealogical resources. The group currently has approximately 4000 members.
