The aim of Somerset Record Office is to collect and preserve documents relating to the history of Somerset.
Based at the Heritage Centre in Taunton, they then makes these documents publicly accessible.

They are approximately 45 minutes walk from Taunton Railway Station. The nearest bus stop to Somerset Archive from this station is on Minehead Road at the Cross Keys pub.
A free car park is available for visitors to Somerset Heritage Centre, which includes three designated spaces for blue badge holders.
They can become very busy, so it is advisable to reserve a microfiche reader.
You can also book a computer, but computers can only be booked for an hour although you may be able to use it for longer if they are not too busy. You are able to bring your own laptop with you. Please tell staff when booking so they know to reserve you a space with a power point.
They offer a research service for anyone unable to visit in person.

It is important to make an appointment before you visit because it can be occasionally closed at short notice due to limited staffing. It is also important to reserve a computer or microfiche reader.
Bath Archive is located in Bath city centre at the Guildhall. Signs are available to direct visitors to the Office, which is in the basement. You can also ask in reception to be given directions.
Many buses stop at Bath bus station, which is a ten minute walk from the Archive. Another option is to use Lansdown Park and Ride, marked as Park and Ride North. Some parking spaces are available for blue badge holders outside the Guildhall.
The Archive offers a research service for anyone unable to visit in person.
They do not operate a Reader's Ticket system, but you are asked to sign in each time you visit.
