County Societies

Maries County Historical Society

The association was established in 1956 and its aims are to preserve and collect information relating to the history of Maries County and to encourage people to be proud of the history of the area.  They are also involved in preserving historical landmarks in the area.

A number of publications are available for sale, which include Marriages 1881-1890, 1860-1930 Federal Census Returns, 1955 Vienna Centennial Book, History of Maries County and The Maries Co. Cemeteries.


Nodaway County Genealogical Society

A number of publications are available for sale, which include:

  • 1893, 1911 and 1925 Nodaway Co. Atlases
  • Abstracts of Births and Deaths in the Maryville Republican and the Nodway Democrat
  • Birth Announcements in The Maryville Daily Forum in 1940
  • Cemetery Books
  • Funeral Home Books

Old Mines Area Historical Society

Old Mines Area Historical Society was established in 1977. 

Many publications are available for sale, which incorporate:

Mary C Norbut has completed research of the descendants of certain persons which include Nicholas Antoine Boyer, John Robert/Robart, Francois Ricard/Recar and Hugh O'Doherty/Daugherty.  These, and other books, are also available to purchase.


Oregon County Genealogical Society

The association was established in 1980 and now has over 150 Members.  Their Library is located in Alton Public Library and a number of resources are available, which include approximately 550 Books, 1850-1920 Census Returns and Newspapers from 1898-1940's. 

There is also a list of published books which contain information regarding the people of the area and Photographs of Churches and Cemeteries.  They also have lists of Funeral Homes, Newspapers and Townships in the Region. 


Perry County Historical Society

They have a number of Church Record Transcriptions for sale, which incorporate:

  • Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
  • Our Lady Help of Christians
  • Sacred Heart Catholic Church
  • St Joseph Catholic Church
  • St Philip and James Catholic Church

They also have Headstone Transcriptions from the Cemetery at St Mary.


Phelps County Genealogical Society

A list of Old Marriage Licences is available.
