The association was established in 1956 and its aims are to preserve and collect information relating to the history of Maries County and to encourage people to be proud of the history of the area. They are also involved in preserving historical landmarks in the area.

Old Mines Area Historical Society
was established in 1977.

Mary C Norbut has completed research of the descendants of certain persons which include Nicholas Antoine Boyer, John Robert/Robart, Francois Ricard/Recar and Hugh O'Doherty/Daugherty. These, and other books, are also available to purchase.

resources are available, which include approximately 550 Books, 1850-1920
Census Returns and Newspapers from 1898-1940's.
