Mower County Pioneer and Historical Society was established on 8 August 1947 after the Mower County Fair in which the Fair Board honoured farmers who had paid taxes for more than 50 years.
It was then decided a building should be erected honouring area pioneers.

Their Research Centre has a comprehensive collection of archives relating to the Southeast Minnesota area.

A number of publications are available for sale, which incorporate the Landowners in Plats 1884, 1902 and 1912, 1884 Otter Tail Co. Platbook, Otter Tail Co. 1916 and the 1880 Federal Census.
