This section lists county associations from Sanilac to Washtenaw giving details about each one and what resources and publications they offer.

County Societies

Sanilac County Genealogical Society

A number of archives are on the site, which include a History and Pastoral Listing of Argyle United Methodist, Methodist Marriages 1913-1951, Baptist Marriages and Selected Marriage Records.

The association has transcribed and indexed the Sanilac Co. 1870 Federal Census and Marriages 1849-1912. 

They are in the process of transcribing and indexing the 1894 Michigan State Census for the area.

A number of publications are available for sale, which include:

  • 1890 Census Substitute for Lexington, Sanilac and Worth Townships
  • 1894 State Census for Buel, Elk, Flynn, Bridgehampton, Custer, Elmer, Argyle, Austin, Delaware and Evergreen

Shiawassee County Genealogical Society

The association has contributed Genealogical Material to Shiawassee District Library - Owosso Branch.  A link to search the Shiawassee Co. Surname File is on the site, along with information regarding where you can find Area Archives.

Stockbridge Area Genealogical and Historical Society

A number of indexes are available on the site, which include Death Notices from the Stockbridge Newspaper from 1886-1966 and 1968-1999.  It is possible, for a fee, to obtain a copy of the Actual Death Notice from the Society. 

They also have an Marriage Index from 1838-1867 sorted by Bride's Name and Groom's Name.  They also have links to the four County Courthouses in Ingham, Jackson, Livingston and Washtenaw Counties.

A number of publications are available for sale, which include North Stockbridge Cemetery Transcription and Oaklawn Cemetery Transcription.

Van Buren Regional Genealogical Society

Van Buren Regional Genealogical Society of Southwest Michigan was established in 1987. Their aim is to preserve the history of the places of Southwest Michigan.

They have a number of resources that are accessible in Van Buren District Library, which include Telephone Directories, Southwest Michigan Yearbook Collection and the Plat Book Collection. 

They also have archives relating to many Counties in the state, which incorporate:

Washtenaw County Genealogical Society

The association is currently transcribing Cemetery Headstones for later publication.  They also have a Library located at the Family History Center, 525 East Woodland Drive, Saline, MI 48176 where a number of resources are available.

These archives include How-To Books, Some Genealogies and other archives relating to various States and Countries, but specifically for Michigan and Washtenaw County. 

There is also information regarding a whole range of resources, which incorporate:
