This section lists county associations from Orange to South Bend Area providing details about each one and what resources and publications they offer.

Orange County Genealogical Society

The association has a Library, but it is located in a private residence so you have to make an appointment before visiting.  An extensive collection of resources are accessible, including:

  • Census Returns
  • DAR Indices to Orange Co. Records
  • Family Histories
  • Obituaries
  • Past issues of journals from several Societies

An Index of Articles from their quarterly publication Orange Peelings 1983-1998 is on the site and back issues of the publication are available to purchase from the association. 

Other publications available include the 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1910 Orange Co. Federal Census Returns and the History of the Thirty-Eighth Regiment, Indiana Volunteers 1861-1865.

Owen County, Indiana Historical and Genealogical Society

They have a Genealogical Library which is located at Owen Co. Public Library.  A comprehensive number of resources are available which includes news clippings, obituaries and family files which includes notes of research done by others.

There are many on-line indexes on the site which include:

Scott County Genealogical Society

The association has Research Rooms which are located at 1050 South Main Street, Scottsburg behind Scott County Heritage Centre and Museum. 

An extensive collection of resources is available which includes books relating to Cemetery Transcripts, Census Returns, Church Registers, Marriages, Military Records and School Registers.

They also have books relating to other counties in Indiana.

A number of publications are available for purchase, which incorporate:

  • Scott Co. Marriages 1820-1905, 1906-1910 and 1911-1915
  • Scott Co. Births and Deaths 1820-1999
  • Finley, Johnson and Vienna Townships Township Cemetery Indexes

South Bend Area Genealogical Society

A number of databases are available, which include

  • Burial Permits 1910-1929
  • Cemetery Inscriptions
  • Coroner's Records 1879-1960
  • Early Immigrations
  • Federal Census Returns 1870, 1880 and 1910
  • Time and Place of Birth Records
  • Walkerton News 1886-1929

All these resources relate to Saint Joseph County.  There is also a Marriage Databases Index, the Catholic Church Marriages and Naturalisations 1856-1954. 

A number of publications are also available, which include St Joseph Co. Cemetery Inscriptions and a collection of the SBAGS Quarterly Newsletters 1978-1995 and 1996-2005.
