This section lists county associations from Coweta to Muscogee giving details about each one and what resources and publications they offer.

County Societies

Coweta County Genealogical Society

They have a Research Library where a number of resources are accessible.  This includes books and resources from across America. 

They also have publications for sale, which include:

  • 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 Censuses of Coweta County
  • Cemeteries
  • Early Wills 1827-1910
  • Meriweather Co. Pioneers
  • Pioneers from the 1827 Land Lottery and the 1830 and 1840 Censuses

Decatur County Historical and Genealogical Society

The association was established in 1995.  They are currently compiling a book regarding Decatur Co. First Families.  

A list of surnames currently being researched by members is also available.


Henry and Clayton Counties Genealogical Society

Ancestors Unlimited of Clayton County and The Henry County Genealogy Association merged in 1992 to become The Genealogical Society of Henry and Clayton Counties. 

Their site gives details of their extensive number of resources that are accessible in their Library.  These resources include:

Huxford Genealogical Society

The association was established in 1972.  They have a number of publications for sale which includes the Pioneer Families of the entire Wiregrass Region.  

This covers Coastal Georgia to Northwest Florida and East Alabama and from Macon to Central Florida. 

A book regarding Clinch Co. history is also available along with a number of microfilms relating to the counties of Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio and South Carolina.


Lowndes County Genealogical Society

They have an early history of Lowndes County and Valdosta on the site.  There is also an Old Pay Roll of 1836 which is Capt. Sharp's Company Florida Volunteers for the Indian War, 1836.

Muscogee Genealogical Society

The association was established in 1976. They have links to a number of Research Resources and it is also possible to take out a subscription or buy back issues of their journal on the site.  A surname index to the journal is available.
